What is a counter trap?

Can I activate a counter trap card same turn it's set down? (yugioh card game)?

  • Hi fellow yahoo-li-gans, I have recently started playing yugioh again with my little cousins that come over on the weekend and just have a quick question. I'm well aware that you can't activate trap cards and spell cards same turn that they are set face down, but my question is can u activate the trap card in response to your opponents trap card? Example: My Main Phase 1 I put Seven Tools of Bandit face down and activate Dark Hole. My opponent then activates Magic Jammer. Can I then activate Seven Tools and destroy that Magic Jammer or do I have to wait 1 turn to use the trap card?

You have to wait till your opponents turn to be able to activate it.

You'd be wrong about spell cards. You cannot activate ANY kind of trap the same turn it's set. This includes counter traps. There's nothing magical about them that lets them bend the rules. You CAN activate spell cards the same turn they're set on the field UNLESS THEY ARE QUICKPLAY SPELLS. You can activate quickplay spells from your hand during your turn, however, if you set a quickplay spell card you cannot activate it until your turn ends. Normal, continuous, and equip spells can be activated regardless of when they were set. Infernity decks would suck if you couldn't set a spell before activating it.

all trap cards(including counter traps) must be set 1 turn before they can be activated, so you have to wait till next turn. the only spell cards that can't be activated the turn they are set are quick-play spell cards..
