How do you play Bridge (card game?

I want to learn how to play bridge???

  • I would like to play bridge (card game) but don't know nothing about the game? Where should I start from? Is there any web sites that teaches how to play bridge for a newcomer?.

  • Answer:

As far as I am concerned bridge is the best card game that there is. I would suggest that you first check around your local area for a bridge club that takes beginners. That will be the best way to learn - real playing with real people. Often they will be quite dedicated bridge players, so you would learn many fine points of the game that you won't learn online or from a book or from a computer game. If that is not possible there are a number of ways to learn. You can buy a bridge computer game - we have found that the Hoyle's game is best, especially for beginners. It has levels of play and quite good written instructions. With this game you can play bridge alone and at your own level. There are many books about playing bridge, but I have found that they are most helpful when you already know the basics. I believe the "Dummies" series of books has one about bridge. When you have learned a few of the basics, begin trying the bridge problem in most daily papers. Some of them are quite good, and they will include an explanation of the correct/best bid or play. There are online courses to teach you to play bridge - I've included a link to one of them. I can't say how good they are, but I know many people use them. Do a search on e-bay for bridge games. You can buy a hand held travel solitaire bridge game and instructions and equipment for two-handed bridge. And of course there are numerous sites where you can play bridge on line. We haven't done that as we prefer to play with our bridge club and family and friends. Add the Hoyles computer bridge, and we have plenty of opportunities to play the game. These sites will give you more information. Enjoy your adventure with bridge. I hope this information is of some help to you. Three No Trump!!!!

You can play Bridge free of cost at yahoo. Pogo is also a good site to play Bridge for free, all you need is an account that you can make for free and in minutes. You will need java enabled to play the games online. They have game instructions and then you can practice without anyone seeing you that you know.

Contact a local bridge club. They will be able to direct you to classes, or, may even have some on their own.

The American Contract Bridge League is a great resource for all things bridge. Check out their website at http://www.acbl.org - they have free Learn to Play Bridge software and links to find a bridge club near you. If you're serious about the game, you can also join there, assuming you're in the US or Canada.

ACBL's learn to play bridge software is probably the best place to start. The author of that software, Fred Gitelman runs a free and highly popular bridge site over the internet. Check out their web page at www.bridgebase.com.
