Magic the Gathering, online tutorial?

Where can I purchase big lots of Magic: The Gathering cards online?

  • I've been playing Magic: The Gathering since 1995 when 4th edition was out. When I joined the Army I gave all of my cards to my friend. I still play in Sealed Deck/ Booster Draft tournaments, but I only keep the rares I pull, and I give the rest away (what a dummy. I know...) Now I find myself wanting to play again but don't have any cards. Where can I go online to buy boxes (not tournament boxes, booster boxes, or fat packs, I'm talking about hundreds, even thousands, with rares, commons and commons mixed in) of cards? I already know about eBay, thats where I usually go. I'm looking for other sites. Steve, help me out buddy.

The only thing I know about buying in bulk would be Ebay. Of course, you could ask other players. If you want to go that route, I would suggest http://forums.magictraders.com/Ultimate.cgi or http://forums.gleemax.com/forumdisplay.php?f=268 Both are free accounts. Just get an account and post a thread that you are looking for bulk stuff. Tell them that you are trying to get back in and they will help you out. I know that most of them are good people. I haven't ran into any rippers yet. Also, I am at the opposite end of you. I still love the game but with no one around to play with, I feel that I getting further away from the game. I usually hang out on the Wizards boards or Woodenmarble. That's where I get my Magic fix now. Now that I don't have anyone to play with and I don't want to get Magic Online. I've got a 40 lb. box of commons and uncommons and roughly about 200 rares. When I got out of Active Duty, I really stopped buying packs. I get them every now and then but now it's about 3 packs every 3 or so months. I can give you a deal if you want to take mine off my hands.

As a former dealer, I feel the need to offer you some advice... don't! If you're buying large numbers of cards in bulk, you will never get anything useful. The commons and uncommons you'll get are pretty bad (both playability and condition), and you'll get between 5 and 8 of each. As far as rares go, you'll only get the bottom of the barrel rares that can't be sold normally. Think of it this way: As a dealer, it's my job to make as much money as I can. Since I can sell playsets of good commons and uncommons for a few buck each, and good rares as singles and playsets, why would I ever want to make less money by putting them in bulk lots?
