What is the Best Chess Clock?

Can someone tell me what is up with the chess clock in the new yahoo chess?

  • I was playing chess with someone with a chess clock set at 15min 50sec. I was winning according to the chess clock (I had more time) - by about a minute. So I decided to take it easy. As long as I stayed ahead in time and at least tied in pieces, then I would just hunker him down until he ran out of time. It was all going well and to plan until he got down to about 41sec left on his clock. For some weird reason when it came his turn to move his clock increased time a few seconds and then would decrease a few seconds and then up again and then down again and so on. All the while whenever it came my turn my clock kept decreasing in time, and sometimes even would accelerate downward by even a few seconds at a time. Sooner or later my opponent and I are tied on our clocks. [I don't know but it seemed by the end as my opponent was in the process of check mating me and taking more and more of my innocent pieces that my time decreased even faster]. Is that what the new clock is all about?

  • Answer:

Yahoo has been having alot of problems since the format change. I 've also discovered there are many cheaters there. I suggest you try http://www.freechess.org for online play. Once you create your free account, download a free Windows interface from http://www.babaschess.net to avoid having to use a browser for online play. This will eliminate any pop-ups and ads from interfering like they do at other popular sites. I've never had any problems there with cheaters either.
