  • What board games did you grow up with and which do you play now? Do you have any board games you could never play because it was too hard/boring? =) Grew up playing: Snakes and Ladders (Chutes and Ladders) Candy Land Monopoly (Jr, Original, Star Wars, and Pokemon) Clue (Jr, and Original) Chess Yahtzee Battle Ship Jurassic Park the Board Game Goosebumps (Escape from Horror Land) Mousetrap Scrabble Connect Four Risk The Games I play now Harry Potter and Super Mario Chess =) Scrabble Games I Couldn't Play Checkers (Never could get it) Careers or Life (I always lost!) All Card Games (Don't have a knack for it unless it's magic cards) What about you?

  • Answer:

I like your Harry Potter and Super Mario Chess sets for decoration and display. To play a real game of chess, I prefer to use a real Staunton Design chess set.

Definitely chess, many considered it as a sport. Chess is not just a mere of pushing woods, behind those moves are strategy and tactics. Aside from chess being a great sports, it also has rich history and interesting players like former world chess champion Tal. The beauty of chess is like in other sports it can reflect your personality by your style of play. For example if you are aggressive type, there is the Sicilian defense, but if you are more of a positional player, there is the 1.d4 openings. Then there is the beauty of chess endgames, middle game and chess openings, yes the objective of the game is to checkmate the king, but in order to achieve that requires strategy and tactics. Weak square and weak pawns are sample of chess positional concepts. Chess is an art, science and sports combined.

No games now, unfortunately, my hubby won't play them! I loved Backgammon, Scrabble, Monopoly, and cribbage (not technically a board game, though) As a kid I played checkers, baby chess (just the basic moves) and chinese checkers Also Candy Land and Uno We were given "The Game of Life" in the 70s but found it too complex and boring. I'd love to learn Mah Jonng properly but I don't know 3 other people who want to play!!

Grew up playing card games, mostly euchre and royal rummy. Now I still play euchre and I enjoy a board game called Wise and Otherwise. I never could get my head wrapped around cribbage.
