What are some good newer two player PC games?

Name me some two player board games, for the high IQ people...?

  • Looking for some two player board games; the only ones I already know are Battleship and Guess Who, not exactly entertaining for the Wile E Coyote - Super Genius I live with (recovering from back injury/ cactus injury/ other random bad luck illness and/or injury rotation) Ya so again, any intelligent two player games...or good luck charm ideas... Thanks guys!

Bramblyspam gave you some good ideas. I especially endorse Yinsh, in fact it was the first thing that came to mind. It is a two player, abstract strategy game that has a mechanic that is similar to Othello, but has much more depth to it. Simple to learn, deep in possible strategy. I also would like to suggest Lost Cities. This is an adventurer two player card game that is a lot of fun. I also like a new release called Perry Rhodan. This has a space theme which you pick up and deliver goods from different planets. I also like Ingenious. This plays 2-4 players and works well with 2. Check them out at Boardgamegeek.com. This is an information/online community site for boardgames. You cannot find these in regular stores. Your best and cheapest bet is to buy online. I suggest the stores boardsandbits.com, gateplay.com and gamesurplus.com.

Careful what you ask for... there are lots and lots of 2-player boardgames out there, and some of them might be too much for you! Two that I would strongly recommend are Yinsh and Carcassonne-hunters & gatherers. (There are lots of Carc variants, that one's my favorite by far). You won't find them in your typical mall store, you'll probably have to get them from a specialty game store. If you don't have one of those nearby, they're easy enough to get online. Both of these games are fairly easy to learn, but have lots of depth for strategy. Hope that helps!

Some other great games for 2 that require thinking are Go, Blokus, Ingenious, and Qwirkle. I recommend going to the boardgamegeek.com site for many other 2 player suggestions as well.

Settlers of the Catan is pretty popular among my friends. It's pretty easy to learn and very fun, while permitting quite a bit of strategy. If you're looking for some more hardcore strategy, there's always Chess and Go.
