Do you think uno is a mexican game?

Fun big kid board game?

  • I am looking for a new fun board game to play with my family come the holiday season. We like games that are mentally stimulating but still leave room for conversation. In the past we have played Uno, Mexican Train Dominoes, Taboo, we very frequently play apples to apples to the point where 2 people are so good at it, they always win, and its not fun anymore. We also tried Smarta*s, but some think it requires too much previous knowledge, so we dont play very often. Any suggestions, as well as a description of the game would be most appreciated! Also- we generally play with between 5-10 players, all above age 21

A really fun Trivia game is Wits and Wagers. I know, trivia games are bad because only a few people know the answer, but that's the beauty of Wits and Wagers. First: A question is read and EVERYONE writes down an answer at the same time. All the answers are numbers, so once all the answers are given you arrange them in numerical order lowest to highest. In the second part of the round you bet on which answer you think is right. You can bet on your own answer or someone else's. Whoever gets it closest without going over wins points, and everyone who bet on that answer also wins points. The points you win can then be bet in the future rounds, so scores can fluctuate as people win big or lose big from round to round. It's only 7 rounds long so it goes by really quickly. It's a very fun game and is one of the best trivia games/party games I've ever played. Another game that can be great is called "Saboteur". It works best with around 6 people, but it works really well with 5-10. All the players are trying to find a "Gold Nugget" which is hidden near two "Rock" cards. But some of the players are secretly Saboteurs who are working against the group and trying to keep the Gold hidden. If the Gold is found then the Gold diggers get to collect "Gold Nugget" cards. If it's not then the Saboteurs keep the Gold from being discovered they get Gold Nugget cards instead. When you're familiar with the game check out Saboteur 2. It's a really good Sequel to the original with some new roles for players, basically splitting up the Gold Diggers into two groups: Blue and Green and making it so sometimes only one team can reach the nugget. It's a little more complex than the original game so it's better to teach it to people who know Saboteur rather than just starting people on it. And there's the game Werewolf. It's also known as Mafia. It can be played with a standard deck of cards or you can buy one of the Sets out there that have special Player Abilities. Basically though it's a simple enough game. In the game there's a person who runs the game, they give everyone else a card. Players are either Villagers or Werewolves. The Villagers are trying to figure out who the Werewolves are and kill them to save the Village, and the Werewolves are trying to eat everybody. The Villagers have a secret weapon: The Mystic. The Mystic knows who the Werewolves are and can try to convince everyone else of their identities, but has to be careful not to be killed by giving away too much information. Every round has two parts: First to start out the game everyone "Goes to Sleep". The Werewolves "Wake Up" and see each other so they know who they're working with. They agree on one person in the group to kill and point them out to the person running the game. They then go back to sleep and do something like raise a hand and the Mystic wakes up and sees who the Werewolves are. Then the Mystic goes back to sleep and the whole town Wakes up. The person who died is told that they're dead and is out of the game. They can't influence the vote, but they can still talk and say who they suspect to be the Werewolves. The whole town discusses who they think is likely to be a Werewolf and they "Kill" that person. The game continues like this until either all the Werewolves are dead, or there are more Werewolves than Villagers. It's a really good game with the right group. I hope this has been helpful. Have fun gaming.

One of my favorites is Last Word. Basically, each round has a letter and a category, and you start shouting out things related to the category that start with the specified letter. It doesn't sound like it would lead to much conversation, but we always end up talking and laughing. It's a lot of fun.

Another poster mentioned Scrabble. I personally like Scrabble, but you have to be good at seeing unusual words to win. Some people are just not good at seeing unusual words. Another possibility is Trivial Pursuit. It is sort of like Jeopardy! but designed for large groups.

Little Sam

Scrabble is great for learning new words. I play with 9 tiles, and doing so makes the time go by a lot quicker and makes much larger words. what about Jenga? Its the game where you stack the blocks up in a tower, then remove one at a time and add it to the top.

That Polish Guy

I'm twenty and I recently bought the pictionary man. I've played with my friends and it is quite entertaining for older adults.
