What's a good, free, downloadable chess game?

Looking for a downloadable game from the early 2000's based on Through the Looking Glass.?

• I found this game somewhere online. I didn't download it from any gaming site, it was a personally managed Angelfire or Geocities site that the person who'd made it set up to sell the game. I downloaded it in 2003 or 2004. The game was point and click. You went into a type of Wonderland where you had to pick up objects to move forward. At one point I found a little kitten hiding in the bushes, and the picture of a kitten in someones hands saying "It's dangerous to go alone, take this," popped up. There was a simplistic chess scene in it (but not a full-scale chess game, it was just so you could pick up the King, who talked and whined a lot). Another scene had the player entering a cabin and retrieving the claw of the Jabberwock and being able to read Lewis Carroll's poem. The final scene that I remember had the player boarding a train to some other area of the game, but only after retrieving a boarding ticket (which I never found). All of my Google results returned only the dozen or so commercially released Alice games and none of them happened to be the one I'm searching for, so I realize this is a longshot, but I'd be grateful for any help at all.
