What are some good feats for a DnD 3.5 rogue?

DND: whats the perks & difference of manyshot vs rapid shot?

  • I know with manyshot feat you can fire up to 4 arrows with a -AC, whereas rapid shot gives an extra attack with only a -2AC. I have both feats, and I feel like I would always use rapid shot over manyshot. Or do these feats stack? I play as a Deep wood sniper, and this question has always bugged me. I also need another feat and am having troubles picking one... here are the ones I have now: point blank shot, track, weapon focus, farshot, improved critical, dead eye shot, rapid shot, and master archer. Thanks in advance =)

Actually Im pretty sure its the other way around. But the general idea by the other contributor is right. Rapid shot actually provides you with an extra attack during a standard action (aka, you can still move in the round and instead of moving and just getting one attack like normal, you can move and have two attacks with this feat) and as you said the second attack comes at a -2 atk penalty, which is nothing after the first few levels. Since you are granted an extra attack, it is your choice who to attack with it, so it allows you to attack multiple creatures. Manyshot on the other hand is described as nocking two or more arrows on your string at the same time (I believe up to four like you said) and firing them simultaneously at one target, but at a - to atk penalty based on how many additional arrows you fire. Deepwood sniper is a very cool presitge class, I tend to play a ranger/scout ranged archer myself, and based off the feats you already have, I would suggest you consider investing in the Precise Shot and then Improved Precise Shot feats. The first eliminates the -4 penalty for shooting into a melee confrontation and reduces enemy partial cover AC bonus, while Improved negates all enemy cover bonuses except total cover (aka, theyre completely ducked down behind a wall or are standing around the corner from you so you couldnt hit them anyway without the Arcane Archer phase arrow class skill). However, I LOVE 3.5e and have put many hours into reading many source books and websites and stuff and I have never heard of your Dead Eye Shot and Master Archer feats (what sources are they from, or are they homebrew? I'd like to check them out), so maybe they fulfill similar purpose as Precise Shot? Anyhow, glad to hear from another D&D player, they seem to be getting rarer and rarer these days. Happy gaming and happy sniping :)

Well with Manyshot you can aim at different targets can't you? I don't have a core rule book so I can't check just off hand, but I figure that's how it works. So Manyshot would be good in crowded areas and Rapid Shot would be good if you wanted to hit the same target more than once. At least that's my guess on what would be the advantages based off of basically their names. Oh wow, Let The Dice Decide is awesome and thorough. And it sounds like he actually has a copy of the rules. I'd go with his answer.

Both feats are granted by the combat style of the ranger. Manyshot needs only one attack roll. And it costs a standard action. Rapid shot is just one more attack (and with less penalty), but it is full attack (however you may prefer it if you have more attacks from high base attack). If you want to snipe, you may not be able to use Rapid Shot.( I can't find the rules, but I will trust this... http://www.enworld.org/forum/d-d-legacy-discussion/201177-hiding-sniping.html so it may be wrong) Since you can only make one attack.... Also with manyshot you can only make one sneak attack... (edit: also, it was funny because at first i thought that Demen said you to roll a dice to decide which is best :P )
