How to play WOW board game?

How do you go about making a trivia board game that people will actually want to play?

  • So, I tutor (mostly college freshmen) in general chemistry. Most of the time we work on problems; homework, in-class assignments, practice exams and quizzes, blah blah blah. Once in a while, though, we play Jeopardy! because I am a big fan. Buuut, I want to make a board game! Because I think it will be fun to make and play. Problem is, I don't have any big ideas on how to go about this? All I know is that it should be fun, interactive, college-level, about the topics we've covered and will cover, adaptable? and most of all not childish or demeaning. I can just wing it because I do sort of have an idea of what I want to do, but it'd be nice to get someone else's perspective because I am not a big board game person. Ideas?

  • Answer:

The best motivation to learn Chemistry is pain. Replace points with pain. Ask them questions. If they don't get the answer right away, smack them. If they can't get it on their second try, it's time to bust out the thumbscrews. They may not enjoy as much as other 'fun' games, but their GPA will thank you. And that's all that matters. YOU WANT TO BE A CHEMIST, DON'T YOU!?

Other answers

Maybe you could just the trivial pursuit idea. But make up different chemistry topics for each color, since history & sports are not really chemistry related.
