A question about buying scratch off tickets near the end of a roll?
-
I've heard a tip when it comes to scratch off tickets, that involves getting tickets in denominations that are at or near the end of a roll. Does there happen to be percentage to this? For example, would the last 10 $1 tickets on a roll be "more special" than the other 390? Another example: if a convenience store clerk tells me that there are five remaining $5 tickets of a select kind, should I get all five? Yes, I know my chances are still high that I will be losing money.

Erik is completely off-base on this. Here's a quote: "If there are 5 tickets left from a 100 ticket roll, there is a 95% chance that the good winner has already been found from that roll. So, you're spending money on that 5% chance." OF COURSE! But that's NO DIFFERENT than ANY other 5 tickets in the entire roll! What makes the last 5 tickets any different from the first 5, or the middle 5, or ANY other 5??? Answer? Absolutely nothing. Answer to your question - It makes absolutely, positively NO DIFFERENCE whether or not you get the last few tickets in a roll or any other tickets. I'm glad you know that your "chances are still high that I will be losing money." I just want to make it extra clear JUST how bad your chances really are. Simply put, lottery tickets are the WORST bet on the planet! Do you realize that if you bought the WHOLE ROLL of scratch tickets, you should expect to only "win" back around HALF of what you spent! That's what the lottery companies pay back. Only 50% to winning tickets!!! There is NO figuring out how to beat these tickets. No way, no how. If you don't believe my 50% figure, KEEP TRACK! If you keep track over a long enough period, you'll discover I'm right.

Each ticket has the same chance of winning.

I tend to avoid buying tickets at the end of a roll -- Yes, odds of winning don't change, however...what does change, each roll typically has 1 decent size winner. By decent that may be $20+ or so. If there are 5 tickets left from a 100 ticket roll, there is a 95% chance that the good winner has already been found from that roll. So, you're spending money on that 5% chance. Most scratch off games will have odds of 1 in 4 or so, statistically speaking, if you buy the last 5, 1 on them should be a winner of some sort. Might be a few bucks, or just a ticket. Could also be the big winner from the roll. You never know.

No matter where the ticket, you simply have to have luck on your side
