What is a croupier? Where can I learn to be a croupier?

How would i go about working as a croupier in Vegas?

  • I am an experienced croupier currently working in London. I would like to work as a croupier in Las Vegas. Any ideas on how i can get the ball rolling?

  • Answer:

Not a good idea right now. For every working croupier in Las Vegas right now, there are three unemployed. If you really want to try, you might want to move into town and then apply at the high-priced joints first, emphasizing your previous experience. Good luck.

The gaming industry in North America is taking a really bad hit in these hard economic times. I'm a dealer (16+ yrs.) at a Harrah's property in Windsor, Ontario, and we have had a significant drop in business over the past couple of years. There have been layoffs across the board in unionized positions and a downsizing of management positions. I travel to Vegas recreationally every year and when I was there last October it was considerably quieter...lots of people on the streets but not many actually at the tables. There were unheard of offers, such as 2-for-1 shows, and buffets, and tickets available to shows that had for ages been hard to come by. As the poster before me said, I think it would be very difficult to get a job dealing in Vegas right now, unless you have some connections somehow, and even then who knows? Sorry.
