What is the best raffle strategy?

With multiple entries, what's the best strategy at winning a raffle?

  • I want to enter a raffle, and basically, this company says you get one entry per $10. I spent well over $1,600, (in multiple receipts). I know it's all based on personal preference, but would you rather put all 160 tickets in a range (i.e own ticket # 10029 - 10189) or have it spread out? (i.e 10029 - 10059, 10304 - 1804)? Im doing it spread out (with some range of course), but if you were me, what'd u do?

  • Answer:

If I were you, I wouldn't have spent $1,600 on raffle tickets! It honestly makes no difference whatsoever, unless you specifically know HOW they are going to draw the winner, and if you also knew of some way to exploit this. For example, if you knew that all tickets were going to go into a barrel, then someone was going to spin the barrel once and draw the ticket, the best strategy might be to put ALL your tickets in the barrel at the very end. Beyond having some exploitable knowledge of how they will draw the tickets, whether you spread them out or keep them together makes no difference. Most likely you've just thrown $1,600 down the toilet. I sure hope I'm wrong - truly.

They are just picking out one ticket at random? Then how can it possibly matter? You have 160 chances. Having ticket 10060, and the winner is 10061 doesn't mean you were "close".
