How random are card shuffling machines at casinos?

Does blackjack shuffling machines automatically make players lose the money?

  • I went to one table blackjack in florida, every hands the card go into shuffling machine. Which make card counting impossible. So does it mean players will lose money for sure? I thought the only way to make profit from blackjack is know basic step and when to make hit or stand and also do card counting. Without card counting, even the most skills players will lose even if they do everything as follow the kelly math method. Even MIT student will never gain profit in past 1980s if they have shuffle machine during that time?

  • Answer:

The use of automatic blackjack shufflers has slowly transformed the game from a strategic one into more of a game of luck. Because of this, some players have distanced themselves from the game while the others became more attracted to the increasing challenges that are laid upon them by the use of such shuffling machines. No matter what factors are inserted into blackjack, it remains a very enticing and interesting card game to play.

It means all players will lose if they played for hours and hours and hours for years and years and years. Just play correct basic strategy and the house edge isn't that much. Anyone can still win. (If everyone always lost, why would anyone play?)

While a continuous shuffler does make card counting impossible, it does not mean all players will lose. It is possible to win while not counting cards, just as it is possible to still lose while counting cards.

Basically you are correct. LegFuJohnson is correct, too in saying that not everyone loses. In the LONG RUN, everyone will lose, yes. But like he said, if everyone lost all the time, nobody would ever come back. I often talk about 2 Truths of gambling. I'll share those with you now: Truth #1 - WINNING money at a casino is actually very easy to do! Play Blackjack long enough and you WILL have some great streaks of luck where you will win a lot of money. Truth #2 - Losing money at a casino is just a little bit EASIER! That's the catch. The games are set up to let you win sometimes so that they can suck you into thinking there is a way to BEAT the games. There's not. Ultimately the casino WILL have your money.

There is no card counting in craps. Does that mean that everyone who plays craps is guaranteed to lose? The answer is simply no. Just think about someone who plays one hand of blackjack. They could very easily win the hand (around 49% of the time, that would be true). If they walk away after that one hand, then they'd be a winner and there you go.

If believe that it let's a 'gambler' lose a certain amount of times after I guess a particular amount of muny that it has made I believe it'll just spit out a few dollars ... That's just my opinion :D

For sure but now there is an added risk factor that even if you win you may never collect your money. http://www.articlesbase.com/online-business-articles/online-gambling-the-uncertain-future-4746386.html

Blackjack shuffling machines allow more hands to be dealt per hour and that brings in more revenue for the casino because more hands were played. That's all they do. Very few people have any real talent at counting cards. According to Ben Mezrich's book Bringing Down the House, casinos don't mind card counters as long as they lose. What they do mind are the ones that win and win big. Plenty of people buy a book or get on the internet and learn a counting system. Maybe they even practice it at home. Maybe they turn the TV up loud and music up loud so they can have noise and distraction while they practice card counting. Then they go to a casino and try count cards. But there are two things going on. First, there is no way to know for certain in a casino if you have the right count. There is background noise, distractions, and excitement that can easily trip up a rookie card counter or an experienced one. According to Ben MEzrich's book plenty of wannabe card counters lose more money trying to count cards vs. playing basic strategy. The casinos don't mind that at all. So if a casino switches to automatic card shuffling then that casino is banking it can make more money by dealing more hands per hour and hence per day than it can make off casual blackjack players and wannabe card counters who get it wrong and lose.
