How many casinos are there now in Las Vegas?

Does anyone have experience with sports betting at casinos in Las Vegas? if so, how does it work?

  • I will be in Vegas next month and I was curious how the sports betting system works in the casinos. For example, lets say I want to bet $50-100 on ONE NBA basketball game. how does the process work? what is the casinos "cut"?... if my team wins, do I only win the amount of money that I bet? any info on how this process works will be appreciated. thanks

I'll paint the picture for you as though you've never been to Vegas; which is what I'm assuming. There is an entire area dedicated to gambling on sports. It's called the sportsbook. every casino has one. Just walk in and ask where it is. Once you are there, it will look like the stock market and seem overwhelming. It is not. Buy a beer, sit down and get comfortable for a minute. It's a great place. Look at the boards. The top of every board is the title of what you are betting on: "NBA", "NCAA football", "HORSE" and so forth. Most boards will show the sports broken down in columns... The number on the left is simply the number of the bet... to the right is details on that bet. It will have the team name, how many points they are favored by or underdogs by, and what's called the money line. The money line is a 3 digit number with a plus or minus in front of it. This bet will determine how much you would make if you bet that team would win. For example: if you bet New England +200 and you wagered $100, you would win $200. If you bet San diego and the Monely line for them is -300, you'd have to bet $300 to win 100 because they are favored to win. The best part of las vegas is just go up to the wager window and ask questions. people are more than happy to help you. If you gambling on the NFL, there is a great guide to use. You can search on ebay for it. I think the listing is like Guaranteed NFL gambling guide. I paid $10 for it and won 75% of my bets this weekend. they email it to you after you pay for it. Good luck to you.

There basically 2 ways to bet on your team. With (or against) the spread, and straight up on the "moneyline" Look at the line that is set, and make sure you specify which bet to take. You'll might it like this: 505 LAL -2, -110 -135 506 MIA +2 -110 +125 To read this, it reads that team 505 is the LA Lakers. To bet on them with the spread, you're giving up 2 points. The typical bet with the '-' sign, means that you're betting $110 to win $100 in this case. To place this bet, you'd go to the book and put down $100 on 505. If you want to place a moneyline bet, which means to just bet on who wins, then the odds are slightly different. In the above example, you'd be betting $135 to win $100 on the Lakers to win outright (not giving up points). If you wanted to be on Miama, you would bet $100 to win $125 (which is what the "+" sign means) Know what the minimum wager is (though $50 should cover that). And if you have questions, ask. Also, look for promotions that give "match play" at a sportsbook. You might wager $25, and they'd match your $25 bet for a total wager of $50.

A lot of good explanations came before me. Here is one piece of advice I'll add to offer you. Wait for a good lull in the action and go to the counter and tell them what you'd be interested in betting on. The tellers are almost always happy to help new folks. It's not complicated. They'll suggest the ways you can play it and you can choose from the options what you like. In your case, a "straight bet" sounds best.

They'll help you. But you'll go to the window and place your bet. You say $55 on the Spurs (or whatever)... they'll give you a ticket. How much you win will depend on the bet. Most point spread bets you are betting $55 to win $50. If you are betting a money line bet, it'll be different.
