Answer:
If you pick every possible combination of numbers you will win the lottery. The thing is you need more money for the grand prize and hope it doesn't get split to make this doing this profitable. I'm pretty sure someone did this with power ball when the jack pot got big enough and they manged not to split it and win money. I think since then power ball has added more numbers making it more difficult to win, and making more combinations to do this.

Yes, you are guaranteed to win if you buy every combination. However this is impossible to do. For starters, the mega millions has approximately 175,000,000 combinations. So for you to buy every combination you have to pay 175 million dollars. Do you have 175 million dollars? Another rule is that the tickets must be paid for in cash at the location where they are purchased. You couldn't possibly buy 175 million tickets before the draw date. It's physically impossible even if you had 175 million to waste.

There's always the chance that someone else may also have chosen the winning numbers and then the pot would be divided besides have you thought about what's involved in purchasing the millions of tickets needed to purchase every combination? You would have to fill out millions of playslips and you would have to divide them between thousands of stores cause no single machine can print fast enough, the machines would run out of paper, ink, they may break or jam, some playslips would be mis-scanned, and ultimately, you would need millions of dollars to begin with. Besides they have automatic alerts where if too many tickets are being sold such that the lesser prizes with guaranteed prize amounts exceed what they have budgeted for them then all sales stop so if you even tried, the sales would stop on one of these speed bumps midway through your attempt to purchase all the combinations. Remember they don't have to sell you the tickets and you can't make them sell the tickets to you.

Don't be silly mate think about your question. If this were the case people like bill gates or whatever would do it every week wouldn't they. For example the British lottery has odds of 14million-1 and costs £1 a ticket. I will leave you to do the math
