Why is it harder to play against people that just started to play poker than people that know how to play?
-
say for instance on pokerstars, it's much harder to play against the beginners because they bet huge amounts of chips and 99% of the time when I have a better hand than them and call, they win. AA vs. J3 offsuit... doesn't matter, they win almost every time for some crazy bizarre reason. But when I play against people who have been playing for years on end, I usually beat them very easily waiting for 3 of a kinds or a flush. So how in the world are you supposed to beat beginners? It's easy to beat experts at texas hold em.

Answer:
Beginning players are great to play against they may get lucky and draw out on you but in the long run you will make money off of them b/c they make those bad calls and bad plays with weak hands. It is tough to get a beginner to fold b/c they feel that hands where they have top pair is good so they will go with it no matter what. Beginners are also unpredictable and don't know the typical play to make in certain situations so b/c of that it throws other players off. I see this all the time when I play at the casino. Once you see what kind of hands they are playing and how they are playin them then you can get an idea of what to do against them. I always look for as many weak players as I can at a cash table b/c that is where you're going to make your money. Why go against tough expert player? Poker can be challenging enough at times so why make it harder by playing agaisnt good players. Trust stick to the beginners in the long run you will make out.

Wow. So you're telling me that you'd rather play at tables with expert poker players than against beginners??? That way, you'll not get so many bad beats, but you'll lose more money in the long run. Personally, I'd rather get the occasional bad beat. With a table of beginners, I know that in the long run I'd KILL them at the table. Simple way to beat beginners - play tight, and almost never bluff.

If these people aren't betting the correct amounts to stop you from chasing... then they aren't all that good. If they are betting the right amounts, and you are still chasing and catching... then they'll be on here tomorrow claiming that idiots always catch their flushes no matter what.

It's harder to play them because newbies do not have any idea how to play rationally. A bet that would give an experienced player pause, and maybe get them to fold, will have no effect on the newbie. So you have to adjust, because they cannot. It's like talking to a crazy person or a child -- you adjust because they can't. It's also a lot easier to play them, because they will pay you off so often when you have the goods. But, basically, you need to have a good hand against the beginners, because they don't know when to fold. They may see a big bet as a challenge to their manhood. Irrational. If you try to bluff them, you will lose often -- because they always suspect the other person is bluffing and they can get stubborn. So they keep calling with bottom pair -- which beats your bluff. Forget the bluff, unless the individual has shown himself capable of folding. Wait for cards, then play them hard. And don't get upset if sometimes the beginner wins a hand. It happens. You will get it back later -- so say "nice hand!" even if they should have folded it long before. Hopefully, you are playing well enough that you lose less on the hands you lose, and win more on the hands you win. And ,no, the AA usually wins. 80% of the time, maybe more, if heads up. You are inexperienced enough to not realize how blind you are to the many times that AA holds up. You expect it to win. You only notice when it loses. But AA loses about 20% of the time. Them's the stats. Accept that. I assume you realize that a single pair doesn't win a multiple-player hand very often -- and AA is only one pair. That's where perhaps 10% of losses with AA comes in, for the most part. The other times, the other player lands 2 pair or better. It happens. And, no, it's not easy to beat experts. You are thinking of playing people with a moderate understanding of the game. It's more comfortable to play with someone who understands the game to a couple of levels (what their cards are, what they think your cards are) because, often, their play will be relatively transparent and consistent. That's pleasant. An expert plays a game that is several levels deep, with knowledge of statistics, pot odds, position and layers of I think he has, he thinks I have, I try to make him think I have, what did the guy have before when he did this, etc. Experts mix up their play, so they are not consistent. What is consistent about them is their ability to win. Not every hand. They do not expect to win every hand. Just a lot more hands and a lot more per hand than you usually can. You really want to avoid experts. Playing with them is very very uncomfortable.

You beat beginners by showing down the best hand. You cannot bluff them off their hand because they don't think beyond the two cards in front of them. This disadvantage is offset by the number of times you will get paid off when you hit your hand. But you don't tend to remember those hands because you were "supposed" to win and you "deserved" to win the pot, whereas a good player probably would have folded long before the pot got large. In other words, you win less often, but when you do, you win more.

there is no fold in a beginner good players can lay a set down or any other made hand if they feel that they are beat a beginner will hang on to bottom pair till the showdown

If you are good, you should be able to play against both levels of poker players.

in my opinion, i think that its because amateurs calls or bets randomly. we cant predict if they have a good card or bad card.

First of all let me tell you that I've played poker for over 10 years playing mainly low stakes games....I've played online as well as live and the game to me is like second nature...I know how to adjust, change gears, slow down and trap, stagger my betting patterns, and vary my play. Now I realize that at low levels all this may not be necessary, but is useful when I do happen to play mid level stakes. Sorry...that was just a little background....now to my story.....my father who is relatively new at poker has been playing at my bi-weekly home game...he plays a very loose aggressive style and has been doing quite well...mainly against 6 other players in my home game I would consider very solid players.....how can this be? We play 20.00 SNG's......winner take all games.....you see my dad is pretty much a newbie....but is so aggressive in addition to being so lucky that no one wants to play a pot with him. I have personally never seen this in my life.....its so funny.....other solid playing family members are absolutely bewildered.....lololol...the strangest thing is is that he's been winning for months now.......A complete newbie....dominating my home games.....I tell ya poker can be a strange game....lololo

I once played in a tournament at my school with hundreds of people. I am not the best poker player but I consider myself quite good, not to brag. I beat hundreds of kids and made it to the top 5 or 6 players. Who won? A girl who had never played before. She barely knew the rules. Beginners luck.
