Pokerstars account issues?
-
Ok I have had no problem with my poker stars account, all my info is correct. I sent one of my buddies (Mike) $10 and pokerstars is asking us for both a pic of our drivers license front and back. Is this safe? Both of our accounts real money are suspended ATM. Mike uses a false name on his account so will they allow him to change it. We have played on pokerstars for 4 yrs. He is 26 so he's been old enough to play just didn't want them to have his real name. The $ has been deducted from my account, if they delete his account or something do I get my $ back?

Answer:
What was the point of sending money to an account with a fake name? He couldn't have ever cashed out anyway. It never ceases to amaze me that people are trusting enough to play for real money, yet not trusting enough to give their real name, as if something bad is going to come of it. I can guarantee you that using a credit card at a restaurant is a million times more dangerous than giving your name and address to Pokerstars. Anyway, sending your ID is perfectly safe. If they let him change his name, sending his is fine too. Pokerstars and other legitimate online poker sites would be run out of business if they did not keep people's personal information safe or did something malicious with it. Their billion dollar empire is riding on be safe, fair and legitimate in every way.

Tough situation. It is safe to send pictures of licenses. This is standard and it a protocol to stop people doing exactly what you guys have done i.e. use false names and accounts :) You are pretty much screwed. Both accounts are frozen. They won't unfreeze them until you have sent ID. You pretty much have to suck it up and email them and explain the situation and hope they let Mike keep his account with a new name. You should get your $10 back if you sent your ID but Mike might have to abandon the account and start a new one in his real name. Send all your info. It's safe. Mike is in a different position. Why in the world did he use a fake name? Stupid. So now they are checking both of you. You are suspect because he's your friend. I have no idea if you'll get your money back. It depends on how complicit they think you are. Most sites also have rules about sending money to unverified players. And it matters if you were colluding or are suspected of colluding. Or transferring money for illegal purposes. I'm not going to worry about Mike and what's going to happen to him. He made his bed. It's not the money transfer alone. I play in leagues and special games where we all transfer some money to one person to be paid out to the winner at the end. It's never a problem. So there's more going on.
