Purple toenail because shoes were too small?

Ballet dancrs-almost bruised toenail from dead pointe shoes?

  • okay so i have a perfrormance this saturday and my pointe shoes are sorta dead but i cant get new ones in thime so im sorta forced to dance in them for the next few days. i noticed my big toe nails are really starting to hurt and i think they are almost bruised. what can i do to stop it? do i need to stuff something in my pointe shoes? someone please help cause i dont want my toe nails to fall off thats just completely disgusting.

  • Answer:

You really only have two options: 1. Rest your feet and try to make it through the performance, don't wear your pointes too much until the performance (not recommended). 2. Get new pointes and break them in over night. If your pointes feel too small then your big toe should not be pressed down into the floor and getting bruised with nothing to hold it up.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but you just need new shoes. If they're dead AND too small, you need to stop dancing in them before you hurt yourself. Since you can't get new shoes in time for your show, maybe you can just do half of your classes on pointe or something. Tell your teachers the problem you're having. I'm sorry I couldn't help more, and I hope your recital goes great! :)

You could try Jet gluing your shoes. If the box is dead then drip Jet glue into the tip of the shoe, or apply glue anywhere the shoe is soft. For your toenails try gel toe covers. Bunheads makes them, but you can also find them in a drugstore. You should get appropriately fitting shoes as soon as possible. Good luck with your toes!!!

If your shoes are too small and you put more padding in to help your toe nails, it'll just make it even squishier in your shoe...I think you should get new ones :) Good luck at your performance.

You do need new pointes. Have you ever tried Gaynor Mindens, as they have a flexible shank, so its already 'broken in' when you buy them. Also it is inevitable that a dancers toe nails might come off, I find cotton wool taped to he toe using Micropore tape is far more effective than plasters. Do you use ouch-pouches? Your nails will get bruised very easily unless you use decent protection (ouch-pouches, lambswool etc.) Anyway, good luck for your performance!

your shoes are probs too small and if you have long toenails make sure you cut them cause i know a girl who acctually lost a toenail from that..
