What is the Rockette summer intensive?

Do i have a good change of being a Rockette?

  • I've been dancing since i was 4 and im a pretty well rounded dancer. I'm 13 right now and 5'3 (still growing) i dance 20 hours a week: 3 hours of ballet 2 hours en pointe 3 hours contemporary(including a solo) 4 hours tap (rhythm and regular including a solo) 4 1/2 hours Jazz (including a solo and technique) 2 stretch and strengthening classes and 1 1/2 hours of hip hop) i have never taken a break from dance and had have been on competition teams since i was in my 3rd year of dancing. when i was in 4th grade i made it into one of the top Teen teams and they were eighth graders at the youngest when i was in fifth grade i joined the senior team including legit high school seniors, juniors, etc currently im in a senior(Level 10) for contemporary/lyrical , jazz, tap, ballet Teen pointe and hip hop (level 9) i was wondering if i kept up with the level of dancing i do or exceed it, if i would be able to become a radio city rockette one day. i am not overweight nor a stick. i am 108-110 but built of a lot of muscle. i was also wondering if you guys think i would be able to make it into their summer intensive program with the level and amount of dancing i do? thanks so much! i am also very flexible and can kick my leg to my shoulder if i kick to the front

Since you are 13 and still growing, I don't see the harm in auditioning for their SI. Your height might be an issue down the road, but if you don't try you will never know. I mean you do have 3-5 years before they would take you as a dancer anyways, you might grow those last couple of inches by then.

The minimum height requirement is 5"6' but you must have good proportions - long legs and shorter waist - and look athletic. In addition, you must have a reasonably attractive face and smile, be willing to travel and be emotionally stable (no back biting and competitive sabotaging). Good luck to you.

As someone, said, you may be too short. I'm also surprised you are only taking one tap class per week. It's good to have ballet as a basis, but pointe class isn't really necessary for anyone not considering a career in ballet. Tap should be your main priority, then jazz, and ballet for foundation.

Dance wise? Yes. Height wise? No. The Rockettes are quick to reject somebody who is under 5.8". I had a dance teacher who was rejected because she was 5.6".
