Answer:
Before doing anything, do simple stretches on your arms, legs, back, all of your body. Simple stretches you do before PE or any other sport are fine. Then, for flexibility I'd recommend these stretches: 1. Find a blank wall and lay down, pressing your butt against the wall, your legs stright up against the wall. Open your legs as far as you can, and hold it there. It hurts, but it works. 2. Lay on the ground with both feet straight out infront of you. Pull your right leg up and hold for eight counts. Turn your leg out so your foot is pointed to the left. Turn it back in and lift your leg in the air, stretching it the best you can with your back still on the floor. Then, take your leg and take it to your right side as far as you can while keeping both of your hips on the ground (this can be difficult). Repeat this on the left side also. 3. Simple things, touch your toes, sit in butterfly and stretch over, reach towards your toes while stretching, they all add up. 4. Sit in straddle as wide as you can. Stretch to the right, then the left, and then try to touch your head, arms, chest, etc. to the ground. Make sure you pull your knees back or this won't be as effective. You can place your arms under your knees to help with this. Hope these help!

Before you even start training you need to warm your muscles up in order to prevent the fibers to become more expendable without tearing..., stretching exercises are for after the effort...! That's the rule for all exercises: jogging, weight lifting workout, Pilate's, you name it. Dancers with more specific experience Q&A will for sure be so kind as to will tell you which one exactley those would be. Enjoy

There are many things that you need to stretch, but ffourmain things are the hip sockets, ankles, head, and hamstrings. You don't want to tear your Achilles' Tendon (Trust Me) or break your ankle. Also, your head and neck are one of the most important parts of your body, so I would stretch that if I were you.

For ballet? Mainly barre work, plies, batmas, rondejeauns, PKs, pirouetes, suosuos, eshepes, chanjemas....etc.etc. (yes...i know, my spelling is terrible. sorry. :D) For other types of dance: My personal favorite is the straddle strech (center, left and right) the hurdlers stretch.....the lunge, and a personal favorite: stand up straight at leas a foot away from the wall. stretch your leg up against the wall and bend all the way down to the floor. very good stretch! (although that one is more for flexibility...) This site has some pretty good stretched also.... http://www.womensheartfoundation.org/content/Exercise/stretching_exercise.asp make sure you stretch before and after dancing or exercising, no matter what dance type it is! Hope this helped. :)
