Beginner bboy breakdancer, I need advice?
-
Hey guys (: As of right now, the only moves I know are the: toprock standing 6 step (i know, its useless but still :P) 6 step 3 step turtle freeze (holds for 3 seconds max.. -.-'') Okay, so those are my moves so far, and what I need advice on, is: should I exercise more? pushups maybe? what moves to practice on more? what new moves should I be learning next? and in which order should I be learning those moves? My friend believes I'd be more of a stylist since I'm bad with power moves. But anyway, here's some extra info about me! I'm new to the whole bboy thing, and I think this is what to aim for as a talent, or hobby. I started breakdancing about 2 weeks ago, going to a friend's house every friday to practice/learn, and using sunday as my practice like crazy day. (for 5 hours max in my garage,LOTS of space.) :P My height is 5'7, I weigh 185 pounds as of now, but I'm not fat at all. Don't know where that weight's going. I have an incredibly hard time doing freezes, such as the baby freeze. Which I havent gotten down yet. And... I'm totally dedicated to this, I need to learn more moves. So please help and share your suggestions. thanks

Answer:
You'll get your exercise from bboying, so don't worry about doing push up or other exercises. Unless you want too, is up to you. As of practicing, try improving on your toprocking cuz is one of the most important thing in bboying. Learn as much toprock variations as you can, mixing it up when bboying and use it to your own style. Some toprock examples are indian step, cross over, front step, salsa step, charlie rock, and others. Learn it and practice it. Second thing would come footwork also call downrocking. Practice more on your 6 step, 3 step, and 12 step, cuz it can help you go in all 4 directions. From there make it clean and fast, learn more variations and come up with your own style and footwork. Also when it comes to footwork, try not putting your hand flat on the floor. Try using your fingers or your finger tip when doing footwork, it'll make you go faster and smoother. It'll hurt at first but you'll get use to it. Take some time off of toprocking and downrocking and practice your freezes and powermoves. Or you can try mixing it in on practice sessions, up to you, I do that most of the time. Learn the handglide to help you strengthen your wrist, but turtle freeze would be ok too. Other freeze moves that are easy to do is the basic freeze, baby freeze, side freeze, shoulder freeze. As of powermove learn the windmill first, that's one of the most basic powermove to me in my opinion. Also learn the backspin because it will really help you when practicing the windmill. Plus try finding your own style and add your own flavor when it comes to bboying. Practice on hitting the beat of the music, learn as much toprock, footwork, freeze, and powermove variations as you can, and create your own style. Don't copy other bboy's style or move cuz that's call biting, you can take someone's move or style and modify it to your own style, that will be ok. Oh yeah watch other bboy on youtube to get some ideas, it really helped me. I might of missed some stuff, so sorry. Some stuff in here might not be suited for you but it was to me, do whatever you feel like. There's a lot of stuff in bboying, so learn as much as you can about it and use it to your advantage. Moves that really helped me when I began was - shuffle footwork CC footwork 6 step 3 step 12 step knee drop knee spin backspin windmill sweep cross over step indian step swipe Check out (www.bboy.org) that site has a lot of tutorial and move list you can learn from. I do a lot of my move counter clockwise, it doesn't really matter which way you do it. Most people I see do it clockwise, is up to you, whichever way you feel comfortable or best suited to you, but is best to go both way.
