How can i get my leg extension higher?

How can I improve my extension in ballet?

  • I started ballet not too long ago at 14. I don't have a very high extension when I lift my leg in the air. I can lift it higher when someone is holding my leg, but I can't seem to get much past 90 degrees. If anyone has any tips on how to improve on extension, please help. Thanks in advance.

    I have an excercise that I saw on YouTube. Lay on your back with your legs in a straddle. Bring your legs up together and do a beat and then drop them back into straddle. Do that three times and on the third time, keep your legs in straddle and use your arms to push them lower to the ground. This is supposed to help extension and turnout. I hope this helps!

Aren't you doing regular straddle streatches? Your teacher should be giving you plenty of streatching excersizes to help. My guess is that she isn't at all because if she was you never would have needed to ask. My suggestion is to find a better dance studio. At your age a real ballet studio would offer a flexibilty class as part of the scedule. You are probably taking dance from a teacher who is just in it for the money and you won't get any good skills there. Make sure you find a good studio.
