What does this phrase mean?

What does the phrase, having "two left feet" mean?

  • If it's got to do with bad dancing -- why do people say the phrase instead of just saying "your bad at dancing" or "your dancing is not very good." Where did the phrase come from? Did someone just made it up and it became a famous line? So would it be a kind of insult to say the phrase?

    To say "you have two left feet" is much nicer then saying "Hey man, you s-u-c-k at dancing."...... The meaning is someone who is not graceful on the dance floor. Someone was probably trying to be nice then to come out and just say the above sentence that I left... Dahrma

If you really did two left feet it would create a lot of imbalance and stumbling so I guess it's just a "clever" way of saying you're clumsy

it does mean youre dancing is bad. people say it because they want to say something clever instead "you suck at dancing."

its just basically a better way of saying GOD YOU CANT DANCE just imagine walking round all day with 2 left shoes you would trip alot wouldnt you well thats sort of what the sayin is sayin but relating to your dancing hope this helps..x
