What is net movement?

What is abstract interpretative movement? and Structured Movement?

  • I am studying 'Movement in Music' but seem to have a problem in understanding what is the difference and meaning of the terms INTERPRETATIVE MOVEMENT in which it states tghat it an be either abstract or with programmatic ideas(to which children relate) and STRUCTURED MOVEMENT which can be either dramatic or Abstract. I couldnt understand what is the meaning of this!! pls help///

  • Answer:

I will give this a shot. Interpretive dance can be abstract (the movements are not set just improvisation) or with programmatic ideas (to which children can relate.) An example "everyone will pretend they are the wind and move like the wind or bunnies and hop around." The kids are still making up their dance in the second one (still interpretive on their part), but they have the added "wind" and "bunny' factors as being a programmable idea for them to work with within their improv. Structured movement would be "'lets all jump on our left foot."It is more specific. "Now everyone put your hands in the air". In terms of dramatic or abstract I am going out on a limb here, but I think it may be something like the choice of movement in instructions given to the child.
