Help with Pointe please?

Pointe problems? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!?

  • i am going en pointe this year and i have a couple of problems to start with. 1) my arch isn't that impressive. i was wondering if that can be changed and how. 2) my second toe is longer than my first one....is it really that much harder to go en pointe with this problem....my dance teacher says she had the same problem when she was starting pointe. am i going to be way behind just because my toe is long?

  • Answer:

Relax, first of all. Pointe shoes are so customized these days that most types of feet can do pointe. Although having high arches and even toes is a plus it is not a negative if you don't have them. There maybe challenges when you first start. In time you will find out what works best for you feet, like what shoe works best and what padding works best and breaking in the the shoe the best way. Until then ask fellowe teachers and dancers for advice.

You shouldn't have any problems my feet are the same way. Just make sure your pointe shoe fits you good or you might end up having some problems

OK pointe isnt as hard as what everyone said that it is, its takes a alot of pratice and effort at first but it gets easier. my second toe is longer then my first and it actually helped me it makes it easier because u are not just standing on that one toe but on both. so dont worry it is not as hard it is about looking good and having fun. good luck and have fun

First of all, you cannot make your arch better. Almost everyone gets this wrong. But you can make your arch look better by going over on the boxes of your pointe shoes more, which needs strong ankles. The stronger your ankles are, the further you can go over on your boxes, to make your arches look better. Here's a routine to get your ankles in tip top shape: 50 eschappes-Take your time with them. If you are doing them in your pointe shoes, spring out and push over on your boxes as much as you can. Imagine yourself lifting right off of the floor. If you are doing them in flats, Spring out and try to make the top of your foot go over your toes. In other words, push your ankles like you would in pointe shoes. 50 releves ala seconde-Start in second position with your heels facing eachother. Slowly rise up and push your ankles as far as they will go. Again, imagine yourself floating off the floor. If you don't have pointe shoes on, push over as much as you can with your ankles. 50 sauters (sotays)- Start in a good plie, jump up and point your toes as much as possible. Then end in a good plie. The more you point your toes in the air, the more this exercise will help you. As far as the toe thing. It doesn't really matter. Many people have this and it doesn't affect them whatsoever while they are dancing. If you think you are going to have a problem, then you are going to have a problem, if you don't, you won't even remember it. Don't listen to anyone that says its harder because its not. Good luck en pointe!!!♥♥♥
