Help with Pointe please?

I need more padding on my pointe shoes! Please help!?

  • Ok, so I am like flipping out because I got my pointe shoes yesterday! So, at the store, my teacher said that for some reason, she doesn't like toe pads, and that eventually she wants everyone to stop using pads, except for some paper towl or something. So when I was getting my fitted, I got "Bun heads, pro pad". It is a toe pad, but it's really light weight, and only pads the top of your foot and part of the toes. So at the store, when I put on my point shoes, the T.pads and went up on pointe, it didn't hurt at all, but when i got home, I wore the same exact thing (except no tights) and my big toes and like killing me!!!!!! The problem is that I can't squish a ton of paper towl, or fabric in the shoes because the toe pad i got only takes up 1/4 of a size, so the shoes are a little small, and there is only enough room for a little bit of paper towl and the pads. SO, my feet are like hurting like mad!! is that what pointe shoes will always feel like? Or am I gonna get used to them? And is there something small I could put in the shoes to make them more comfortable? But I really don't want to have to buy another type of toe pad, because I can't return the ones I bought, and they were like $23.00. I really really apprieciate your help!!!!!!!!!!!! And thanks so much for reading my long long question!!!! :)

  • Answer:

Yes, pointe shoes will never be comfortable. Your feet will get used to it, I promise, but it will always sort of hurt. I hate when people tell you it doesn't, because pointe shoes are definitely not made for comfort. Anyways, it makes a big difference when you wear your tights. Don't do pointe without them, it hurts a lot more. Secondly, if you want more padding, the best thing to get is lamb's wool to put in along with the toe pads. The store where you bought your shoes should sell it, and don't worry, it's much cheaper than toe pads. Despite the pain, dancing on pointe is beautiful and so much fun! I hope you enjoy youself!

I had the same problem when I first got my pointe shoes. But I found that it hurts less to go en pointe with thick tights and using tons of pads. What I used to do was buy a 'Lambs Wool Pillow'. They're only about $6.00 to $10.00, so they're not overly expensive. Then, I would put a toe or gel pad into the lamb wool pillow for extra padding. It still hurt to go en pointe, but it wasn't major pain. You'll get used to it after dancing en pointe for a while. I hope I helped! Good luck! You'll get used to them! All the pain won't go away, but it won't hurt AS much. xxx

It will hurt at first, but your feet will eventually get better. When I first got pointe shoes it hurt like s****! now It doesn't hurt that much. Just wear them to class and after a few times it will start to get better.

Well lol if you do not want to buy expensive padding then i suggest you look around more or even improvise on how to make your pointe shoes more comfortable to wear lol sorry

I'm gonna go with lambs wool as well but I only use pointe made by Bloch. I find them alot more comfortable.

You do not need more padding your teacher is right, many companys wont let you have padding at all. they will always hurt

I have never ever heard of a dance teacher telling a student to put a paper towel in their point shoes. stupid. don't do it. use lambs wool, an ouch gel pad or a regular toe pad. IF you have the pro pad just use that. And yes your toes will hurt. your feet have to get use to being up on pointe I used foam rubber toe pillows - $5.00 my daughter liked the gel pads.

Hun its all a matter of finding what works for your feet, the two I would recommend are ouch pouch, or gel pads, eventally your toes will toughen up so you might be able to use a thinner pad or just plains lambs wool but begining out you need good toes pads because it going to get really painful. Your toes toughen up through the years, the pain will lessen but it will never be painless or easy. Wear tights it helps from rubbing. I would suggest getting some lambs wool it pretty cheap, and you can put extra in your shoes along with your toe pads, just remember you need to be able to feel the floor with your big toe if you can't you have to much padding. Good luck! Have fun!

Pointe shoes may be uncomfortable at first but they will get more comfortable as you wear them. I recommend you try a big tip. They are made by bunheads and they are like 10 dollars for a set of 2. They are like little socks for your for your big toe and they have gel in them. It will help relieve the pain on your big toe. Although paper towels sound like a stupid idea... With a toe pad, it actually helped for me but it doesn't help for everyone. If your shoes really hurt that much and they are not sewn, return them and get a new pair or return the pad and get a different one, there a lot of toe pads out there that you can try. Good luck!!!
