How do I start to learn how to Hip Hop dance?

  • Where should I start to learn how to Hip Hop dance without going to a dance studio? I want to learn how to pop and lock, glide, wave, and other types of Hip Hop dancing all on my own. I want to look up videos online and learn from them but I don't know where to start.

DVD's are a great place to look for style and function in the privacy of your home. If you live in a large city go and watch the street talent and try to emulate their movements. Be original though and throw in something that only you have dreamed up and sets you apart from the crowd! It sounds like you have talent it is just the execution of the moves that you need help. You would be surprised to know that dance studios give you some building blocks of maneuvers that will catapult your talent. When you get the moves down just practice, practice, practice,,and you will be a very popular, envied talent that other people will try to pattern after. Many people do not give credit to the fantastic athlete who has the moxie to perform Hip Hop - it is very complicated. Ask DVD rental employees what movies have good Hip Hop dance in them because the news travels fast when a good movie includes magnificent performances of Hip Hop! HEY, I THINK THE BEST WAY TO START IS TO HIRE "STEP UP 2" THE MOVIE. I HAVE DOWNLOADED IT AND I WATCH IT NEARLY EVERY NITE. ITS COOL. THEN YOU SHOULD GO TO YOUTUBE AND SEARCH STREET DANCING. STREET DANCING IS GOOD CAUSE U CAN USE WATEVER MOVES U CAN DO AND ADD IT TO THE BEAT.

I agree with the person above me. That is one way to go. Or go to clubs around where you live. Find paces where you know people dance hip hop. Ask a few people to show you a few moves that you like. Then go home and try them in front of a few mirrors. You can also look on youtube.com to show you how to do some types. You will need to find one style that you will like doing.
