How do I show my ballet teacher I think I'm ready for pointe?
-
I have been dancing classical ballet for 4-5 years, I am 13 years old, and I'm still not en pointe. I have been in a ballet 4 class, which is a prep for pointe class for 1 year and my teacher still does not bring me up. During performances I watch other girls en pointe to see how much better I need to get but I am just about the same as they are. Even sometimes I am put in positions(such as Lady in Waiting, mouse, dragon, ect.) and the girls are the same tecnique, strength, flexibility as I am yet they have started pointe.

Answer:
I'm 15 years old and only went en pointe at the end of last year and I know what it's like to watch all the girls en pointe and not know why you can't do that as well. I went to my teacher and asked her what I could do to go en pointe and she said I had the technique, balance and flexibility but she thought that my ankles and feet weren't quite strong enough to cope carrying my whole body weight. A few months later (with the help of an exercise band) I was en pointe, so really the best thing to do is talk to your teacher and listen to the advice she gives you :)

try bringing up the subject to your teacher. and if he/she says that you arent ready, use the reasons you listed on why you should be able to do pointe

Watching other girls dancing on pointe can be hard when you know you are just as good as them. If you want to go on pointe, you need to show your teacher you are ready. I am not saying to show off but get her attention and get her to watch you dance. Ask her lots of questions about steps, how she wants them done, what arms should be done. Also, put as much effort as u can into each class. After a while, she will start to watch u more and after you feel like she has watched you dance really well, go up to her and talk to you. If she says yes, congrats, if she says no, she knows you want it. If she says no, also ask her wat you need to work on in order to get on pointe. What i am saying may sould weird but it has worked many times. Having her watch you shows her that you can dance as well as you can. If you ask her with out haivng her really watch you, she may not know your full potential. Good luck!!!!

you have to work your *** off. One day I asked her when i will be getting my pointe shoes since a few other girls got theirs the day before and she said that she has to be sure that i am strong enough and she thinks that i wasnt working my fullest so the next few weeks i knew she would keep her eyes out for me. i worked my *** off to show her that i was ready and then i got my shoes! okay. first few weeks were great but afterwards they are just pointe shoes.. they are more fun but at times you feel like you would rather just dance in flats..
