Contemporary Dance Homework.....helpp?

Could i get into a contemporary dance college in england?

  • hey :) I would love to go to a contemporary dance school and hopefully become a professional dancer. This september I will be applying for dance college and around this time next year auditions will be held. Im unsure whether to wait an extra year to get more training but could i get into a contemporary dance school.. I do 2 maybe 4 hours of contemporary dancing 5 days a week. My two dance teachers are well trained one of them is even a contemporary dance examiner. She does some classical ballet barre in the morning and advanced contemporary dance technique and also graham and cunningham technique. In october I joined ballet to give me a boost and i got put into grade 3 still in it. I am also going to take summer intensives this summer and I will be hiring out a studio to practice. Could I achieve potential to get into a contemporary dance college? My teacher said i just need to let my self go more and release which ive been working on so much.. please be honest im very determined.. Ive been doing contemporary dance 3 now.. after 2 years i achieved a double distinction. Help and thanks :)

Hi, I am also a dance student and in the uk, I do ballet, tap, modern and am looking to start contemporary because I enjoy doing choreo for it at home. I am 14 and at school we have to start getting careers week sorted - (which means where we want to go to practise the job we want to do) I would also like to be a dancer or dance teacher, and have been doing some research: I don't know where abouts you live but if you live in the North East like me then here are some good dance collages that do contemporary: http://www.dancecity.co.uk/education - This is a college in Gateshead Newcastle http://www.nscd.ac.uk/view.aspx?id=242 - This is a specialist contemporary dance college in birmingham and very well known in the north/north east If you live somewhere near london: http://www.theplace.org.uk/lcds - specialises in contemporary dance and is in london http://www.pineapple.uk.com/company/locations_and_opening_times.aspx - everyone knows this one http://www.rambertschool.org.uk/ - this does ballet and contemporary and I think its in kent If these weren't helpful then here is the top 10 dance schools in the UK website: http://top10.com/top-10-dance-schools-in-the-uk# Also by the sounds of it you sound a great dancer..... I mean double distinction wow!! If you think your good enough and people support you, then go for it. And if you are determined and love it that much then its a passion that should be carried on - "great dancers are not great because of their technique, they are great because of their passion!! And if your like me and you have no confidence in yourself whatsoever then look at some clips on youtube and compare yourself to other dances - however don't be upset if they are slightly better than you because they have had more experience!! :) But a good idea would be - if you are interested in the northern school of contemporary dance, then look on youtube for exam dance auditions that have passed - if your as good as them then you have no problem. Good luck - you will do great, if you ever want to email me then: [email protected] I would love to talk to you because I myself have some questions about contemporary dance and you will probs be able to answer them so if you want you could give me ur email address :) - good luck xx
