Dancers, whats your dance lifestyle?

  • question for dancers (anyone who dances) only: whats your whole weekly or daily routine? like exercise, diet, classes, stretching, etc.

  • Answer:

I exercise often... I really enjoy crunches. I do about 600 a day because in ballet your body must be held perfectly. I dance 8 and half hours a week. Monday-Tap, Pointe, And Jazz Wednesday-Ballet Thursday-Ballet And Hip-Hop Sunday-Ballet I eat healthy foods. My favorites are fruit and salads. I also eat a granola bar before each day dance class because it provides more energy. I do several stretches as well: -I do several stretches at the bar that involve reaching over my side and toward my feet with one leg on the bar. -I also do floor stretches. such as splits and butterflies. -Plies are always a good stretch no matter what kind of dance you are doing. Another thing that I do that i think that helps me with my dancing is practice. I am always dancing. When I'm in classes and a teacher is giving a lecture I'll be silently dancing under the table.

I dance nonstop-- seriously, I think I have a disorder or something now!-- and I stretch so much, my brother makes fun of me for it. I am naturally thin and small, the only thing keeping me from looking anorexic is the muscles. I eat chocolate and normal stuff like that-- sometimes I over-indulge, but mostly I chow on healthy stuff not cuz im a health nut but cuz it tastes better. I do about 5 hours a week of dancing in classes, and next year I want to do about 8 hours (Lyrical, Modern, Ballet, Theater, and Jazz dance) (NOOOO HIP HOP. Its like 1 million "Uh-Oh Oreos" crammed into a package, you kidding me?) I am a clean person, and I love to read and hang with friends. I love to watch dancers, but if they are on pointe and my age or younger, I feel the need to tear thier throats out (horrible envy).

I stretch in the morning, get dressed, go to school, come home, do homework, read, have dinner, do chores, and dance for an hour or two. I have a tap/ballet combo. class on Tuesdays for an hour and a half, and a jazz class on Thursdays for an hour and a half. I usually don't have enough time to dance as much as I would like, but I always dance for at least an hour. I love dancing and couldn't go a day without it!

I used to dance all the time. Constant dance, whether I was in class or not. Then I quit dance because I did sports in high school. Now that I am in college though, I have started dancing again. Right now I am in a hip hop class, and I am also helping a dance company with one of their numbers. All in all, I probably dance about 4 or 5 hours a week. It isn't much, but I am happy to be dancing again. I would like to get more dance going in the future. My hip hop teacher/the dance company president is teaching modern dance through the university in the fall, so I would like to take that from her.

I pretty much have no life, i dance. But its ok because all my friends dance with me so it works haha. well i go to a performing arts high school so i dance for three hours each morning monday through friday (modern, ballet and pointe) and then i go to my academics in the afternoons. Then on Monday through thursday i dance at my studio (ballet, pointe and pas de deux) after school from 6-8:30 and on saturdays i dance 9-11:30. So that's an about 26 hours a week, not counting rehearsals when we have productions going on. Like now when we're preparing for Nutcracker, i go to the studio earlier and leave later and we have what we call marathon weekends where we're there from 4-9 friday, 10-9 saturday and 12-6 sunday. So obviously i take class, stretch and exercise daily. I watch what i eat but not obsessively. I dont starve myself or totally avoid junk food, i just eat smart and eat everything in moderation. Hope that helps =]

To begin: Monday- ballet 4:00-5:30 Tuesday- ballet 4:30-6:30 Thursday-ballet 4:30-6:00 (sometimes I can't make it) Saturday- ballet 9:00-3:00 Every day I practice any dance that I'm working on or just stretch and continue to strengthen myself. I'm the kind of person that really doesn't need to worry about my weight, but I try to eat healthy, all the same. Almost every fiber of my being goes into dance. It's exhausting sometimes, but it's so worth it.
