With the destruction of Coney Islands Astroland park, will the Cyclone coaster and the Wonder Wheel survive?
-
Will the park be open in 2008 for those who want to ride these 2 rides for the last time? Are these 2 rides officially closed for good? Are they open right now?
-
Answer:
The operational contract has been extended for at least next year; after that is still questionable. That means that both are not yet officially closed for good. The Cyclone actually has the national landmark designation working for it, but unfortunately that won't keep it from being demolished if Thor wants, and gets, their way. Astroland Park itself is not open at this time, so the rides are closed. I'm not entirely positive, but for some reason I think they open up the Cyclone year-round, but don't take my word for it.
