How to cook chilli sauce?

Making a stir fry tomorrow, could I replace chilli sauce with chilli powder?!?

  • So i'm cooking at school tomorrow, and i'm making a vegetable stir fry with cashew nuts. The problem is, I totally forgot that I was cooking tomorrow and so I haven't bought any of the ingredients that I need, but luckily I have at least four of the ingredients that I need at home. One of the ingredients that I need is "1tbsp of sweet chilli sauce" which I don't have, and there may be a problem with trying to buy it in the morning, but I have Chilli Powder at home, could I use that instead of one tablespoon of sweet chilli sauce? Would it be the same? I don't mind if the powder is hotter because nobody other than my family will be tasting it, but would I be able to use it? Also, one of the ingredients on the list is "1 clove of garlic, crushed" and again, I don't have any garlic at home but what I do have is "Garlic Granules" and on the front it says to use instead of fresh garlic. Would I be able to use the granules instead of one clove of garlic? I would really appreciate any answers on this question, thank you so much:-)

  • Answer:

Yes you can, but just taste test as you go and gradually build up the heat. Yes you can use Garlic Granules also.

Sweet Chili sauce is nowhere near the same as chili powder. Completely different. Garlic granules...is ok but it won't taste the same. I'm not sure there's anything you can substitute either with...garlic granules isn't the same as fresh and sweet chili sauce doesn't taste like chili powder at all. For the sweet chili sauce if you have 2 tsp of sambal ooleck and 2 tsp of honey...it's close. As for the garlic...use granules...yeah, should be ok.

Chilli sauce is hot and is a liquid. The powder is dry and is a concentrate. So if you use the powder don't put in as much, just a tsp. In oriental cooking they use chilli paste a lot which is extemely hot! That is used only sparingly. Check and see if you have ketchup and add a drop or two of hot sauce to it. That would make it sweet and hot.

I wouldnt do that, chili powder is a completely different taste than chili sauce, it would probably ruin it. ..just skip it altogether. the garlic is fine.

There is no chili powder in chili sauce. 1 tomato sauce 1/4 brown sugar 1/8 vinegar 1/16 allspice powder vs fresh garlic 1 to 4
