How do you clean a dried gourd?

Can bottle gourd be used for eating?

• I am planting bottle gourd vines in my garden. The seed packet says "ornamental, for crafting", but can the young tender fruit be used for cooking? I Asian people eat the oblong gourd all the type. I do not see young bottle gourd sold as vegetauble. Aren't they all the same as gourd when come to food?
