How to cook soya beans drinks and soya bean curds?

When you cook a pot of beans do you inspect each bean before putting it in the pot?

  • I always empty the beans in the pot and wash them a couple of times but my step Mom inspects every bean before she puts it in the pot. Does this sound kinda strange? She is 70, if that makes a difference.

  • Answer:

I check it once i empty it but other than that i cook it right after i wash them.

That's all I do is wash them but still have wound up with rocks in them.

well, I dont, I do rinse them, but I have bit into a small peice of gravel a time or two in the beans, so maybe thats not such a bad idea. Wow, judging from the answers, it seems that rocks are pretty common in beans.

I'm very particular about my pintos, so yes, I do. I wouldn't want to cheat myself out of a lick of flatulence. :P God bless everyone!

You should put each bean under a microscope as well as a mass spectrometer to make sure it's actually a bean. Some rocks disguise themselves as beans to get in your digestive track. That's how gravel propagates.

I think it's reasonable to inspect every bean, depending upon how many you're inspecting. Certainly a whole bag would be tedious, but you do have to be careful of pebbles and other debris. I don't think it's strange at all. Now if it were beans like green or soy, the only thing you'd have to watch out for were mushiness and spotting. Anytime you buy fresh, or even prepacked beans, it's always a good idea to inspect.

I don't look at every single bean either - when rinsing them, I discard beans that float or are excessively wrinkled. I do run my hands through the beans while rinsing them to look for sticks or pebbles which I have found before. I've gotten used to what to look for so it certainly doesn't take a bean by bean inspection!

Yes, you should inspect bean by bean, because many time you find clumps of dirt or small rocks that get mixed in.=)

Nah, just pour them out on a cookie sheet and scan over them to make sure there are no rocks or pieces of wood.
