Can i use a expired passport as id for going out drinking?

An expired passport is still a valid form of identification, at least in New York and Kansas from what I've personally experienced. You just can't use it to cross international borders. I was able to use my expired passport this year (coincidentally issued and expired the same years as yours) as a valid proof of identification at the DMV. If the DMV accepts an expired passport, its still legal to use at a bar. You won't get in trouble if they turn you down. Not like its a fake ID, its just expired, and its at the discretion of the ID checker whether they will accept it or not.

Whether it has expired or not, it is still official ID. It does not have to be valid by date. Banks, the Police, etc. will honour it as ID so a bar/club should too. However if your appearance has changed and you can no longer be recognised from the photo, you may have a problem and need to support with your driving licence or another form of photo ID

depends on the pub. i have the exact same problem, some bouncers let me if i smile sweetly. others just say no which i understand. sometimes it helps if you have other proof, such as bank card or student card.
