What is the best CO2 tank for my MR1?

How to tell how much CO2 is left in a tank?

  • This is for a kegerator (fridge in the garage that has a beer keg in it). I'm using a 5 lb CO2 tank. I'm on my 5th 1/2 bbl, and have gone through several 1/6 bbl kegs too. When I first hooked up the CO2 tank, it read 400 psi when it was full. The pressure never drops, probably because the CO2 is a liquid in the tank. Like I said earlier, I've gone through 4 half bbls, am on my 5th, and have gone through several 1/6 bbl kegs; all on the same CO2 tank. I keep the pressure between 6 and 8 psi in the tanks. How can I tell how much CO2 is left in the tank? Today is Friday, there is no place to get CO2 over the weekend.

I'm not sure about CO2, but propane tanks can be checked by pouring cold water down the side of the tank. Condensation forms at the level of the liquid propane, since it's cooler than the gas. Might be worth a try.
