Do you think it's rude to discount the food of an entire country?

e.g. I don't like Chinese food, I don't like Ethiopian food, I don't like Indian food, I don't like Mexican food. Just wondering, because it seems like people who say this have never been to good restaurants or have never had the daily food of these regions. Restaurant foods tend to try to cater to the taste of the local population, when really the food would be much better had it been authentic. And homemade. For instance, in elementary school we had to bring in food from our country of origin. Someone brought in Chinese food, and it was great. Never had good Chinese food since then, because obv. it wasn't homemade. Based solely on my Chinese restaurant experiences, I'd say I hate Chinese food, when really I don't. I hate Chinese restaurants. (I also talked to someone from China, and he said restaurant food is disgusting, because it's too sweet.) Or someone would say that that the food from my country was "greasy" when I HATE greasy food also, but the restaurants make it greasy, but none of the home cooks I've eaten with add that much oil. Or any of the restaurants I visit when I go back to the homeland.

Answer:
It's not a personal insult against the people of that country to say that you don't like that cuisine. For example. I really like "Tex-Mex" Mexican food. I really don't care for "authentic" Mexican food, and yes, I've had both. I don't like authentic Korean Bul Go Gi. However, there is a restaurant I like that produces a spicy wok-seared beef and vegetables that they call Bul Go Gi which is one of my favorite meals ever of all times. If I've never been to Germany, Thailand, Korea, or Japan, how can I judge the "real" cuisine? If I don't like what is being presented to me as that kind of cuisine, what's the harm in me having an opinion about it?

I think it's misguided. Restaurants try to cater to the local population, so a Chinese restaurant in America will serve very different food to a Chinese restaurant in England, which in turn, serves very different food to that served in France. (I've eaten Chinese in all three countries) I've never been to China, but I understand that the food served in China is very different again. I'm English, but British food has a terrible reputation. However. if you really know about British food and understand which dishes come from where, you will find that British cuisine is both very varied and extremely good. If someone tells me they "hate" a particular food, then I tend to ask them if they have visited that particular country. Invariably, they answer no!

I love all food but i know what you are saying most food Asian wise is not what they eat at home. going back to the 50s when chinese food was just getting popular. they made it for American tastes sweeter sauces. when the Chinese people went to the same restaurants they would order off them menu. things from there home land. now a days they are putting more things that are more authentic dishes on the menu but it's slow coming. the people just never had the good food from that country most would be scared to try something. lot of average Americans are too scared to try something new. If they would just try it they would love most of the food. they just mostly want their comfort foods
