Where's a good cathedral with gargoyles in Paris?

Im goin to paris next month can someone tell wheres the best place to just hangout and not that expensive?

    Les Halles is a good area to hangout and peoplewatch - lots of inexpensive hotels, cafes and restaurants. Also very central - within walking distance of absolutely everything, including the Latin Quarter - but without the tripe.

The Latin Quarter is interesting and inexpensive. Also, the area surrounding the Sacre Coeur and Monmartre are not all that expensive.
