What are beef cattle are used for?

Can female beef cattle be used for beef consumption?

  • I know that generally its the male cattle who get bigger and then be used for beef consumption, because they, being male cows, tend to get big and bulky and stocky just by their gender and so have a bigger body size, but can female beef catte be used for beef consumption too, or is that a very uncommon thing? Lets just say... * is it 'possible' but not a very common thing? (on a commercial scale) * is it never a thing that's dnoe in beef production? (on a commercial scale) * or is it a very common thing? (on a commercial scale) Thank you! Lorna

Beef cattle are castrated males, female cattle are called cows, they are used in a number of ways, mostly for processed products, but I have an uncle who sold for a major meat packing company here in Canada and swore by cow tenderloins and strip loins, for 2 reasons the meat is much more tender, and 2 times the size of a regular steer, and he bought them even for himself at 1/3 the cost of high end AAA Canada beef, I used spare ribs from female pigs, sow ribs are 4 times as big the bones 2 times thicker and the meat melts with both the cows and sows, they hare older, with giving birth there bone structure is larger, especially around the middle.
