  • Do u know over 80 percent of the "Indian" restaurants in the U.K. serve Bangladeshi food as indian food? Many people mistake Bangladeshi food as being the same as Indian food. But, it is not so. Bangladeshi food has its distinct taste and character. Especially the variety of our curry dishes. The many diffrent meat, poultry and fish curries are a culinary delight. We have a variety of seasonal vegetable dishes also. One of the main charactesistics of Bangladeshi curry is that it is not as hot as its counterparts in the other parts of the Indian subcontinent.

I had to check your profile. You asked this same question 5 months ago.. I fail to be concerned I see no difference.. Bangladesh or India Californian Your rant sounds like prejudice.. If thousands of your fellow UK citizens fail to be concerned .. Then what ,, that leaves you as 1 in 100,000 ...???

I know a Turkish place that makes the BEST pizza ever! But...alas, I don't know any Bangladeshi -owned restaurants that make good Indian food. I'm Punjabi. Bangladeshi food in itself is good too, but why they hide behind the Indian name I don't know.

i didn't know thanks for the info but I'm not surprised, in France most people working in Japanese restaurants aren't japanese, it makes me wonder if it's truly japanese food we get or a mixed combo .

The many Cantonese (HongKong) restaurants in Soho London publicize their local cuisine as "Chinese" because of its obvious commerical advantages. As such Indian restaurants in UK need only to shout "Indian" and not Bangladesh, Punjabi, Kerala or whatever regional cuisine they serve; they are still "Indian" and I'm quite sure never intended to misrepresent. What you have pointed out is irrelevant, near useless information. We don't need to know thank you.

Yes, because I grew up in an area with a large Bangladeshi/Pakistani population. But like any foreign cuisine, as the tastes of the host nation become more sophisticated the variations in 'Indian' cuisine will become more pronounced. We have a local restaurant that specialises in dishes from the Kerala region, something that 20 years ago would have just got puzzled looks from customers.

yes i do know this my local curry house indeed sells Bangladeshi food and has never denied this. theres a lot of different styles of food in what was known as India pre Independence Kashmir Punjab Karola and a host of other types as before the British their was so many sultanate nawabs etc that there was never ever one style of food as India had so many conquerors like the moguls of Persia the British the Portuguese so many all that i know i like what i have tried . and i am lucky to have been on a cookery course and was taught how to prepare and cook this regions many and varied foods

Around here they seem to sneak in a few bangladeshi dishes into their menu's. However, there is a bangladeshi take away and a proper indian restaurant. I don't really mind but I guess it is kind of false advertising.

It's food from the Indian sub-continent. That's from Pakistan to Bangladesh and Delhi to Colombo. And yes, there do seem to be a lot of Bangladesh restaurants in he UK.
