What could i use in place of a steamer?
-
We want to steam shrimp, but we have no steamer. What should I do? I have a plastic strainer, but I don't know.

Answer:
a plastic strainer might melt but here's another idea if you have a microwave oven. Put the shrimp in an oven safe bowl, add a tiny amount of water and place a paper plate over as a loose lid. Cook shrimp for 2 or 3 mins, let it sit for about 3 more with out removing the lid. I have done this to many steamed dishes and they come out great.

you can use a plate suspended above a cup that leaves enough space so the vapors can move freely around the pot you are cooking in. You can also use a metal collander for pasta as a steemer. The plastic can melt and is not a good idea.
