Where Can i purchase an Iguana?

Where can I purchase the sweet red clear sauce served at chinese buffets?

  • 1.This type of sauce is not available at grocery stores so please no suggestions to try Kraft, La Choy, etc.. Been there..done that..not doing it again..lol. 2. Please no recipes..I just want to purchase the same sauce the chinese buffets purchase..not try to make my own..because been there..done that. Does anyone know where I can purchase the red clear sweet sauce served at chinese buffets? This is the sweet red clear sauce always placed next to the eggrolls and battered pork/chicken. I have tried ALL the sweet n sour sauces available at grocery stores, and none of them taste or look like the red clear sweet sauce from chinese buffets. I have also tried making my own..but again..never the same taste or texture. I am sure the chinese buffets don't make the stuff, it's too perfect and clear, so if anyone knows what this stuff is called, who makes it, and where I can purchase it online I would appreciate it. THANK YOU!!!

I'd try asking at another Chinese place, where someone speaks some English. Got to be one around. Many restaurants probably make their own. It doesn't take long, the ingredients are cheap. There are thickeners which aren't usually available to the public, which may be why the restaurant sauces are clearer than we get when we make them at home. I saw one recently on a site for the Gourmet Warehouse in Vancouver BC, called Instant ClearJel. There might also be mixes available at restaurant wholesale supply places, that never appear on supermarket shelves. There's more of that kind of thing around than most of us suspect.

http://www.yfintl.com/index/Products/YOS/10 It's sweet and sour sauce. The base is usually maraschino cherry juice.

sweetroll

Well, if you can't find the exact brand, you could make your own. The ingredients are ketchup, rice wine vinegar, and sugar. It's a really simple sauce, so just experiment with those ingredients in different proportions 'til you're satisfied.

frizzlefry

Maybe you could try ask your local Chinese restaurant.
