How to prepare sushi?

Anyone know how to prepare sushi rice?

  • Everytime I cook it ,it becomes too sticky and dry, can you give me painfully specefic instructions on how tto prepare it?

  • Answer:

Sushi Rice 2 cups sushi or short grain rice 2 cups water, plus extra for rinsing rice 2 tablespoons rice vinegar 2 tablespoons sugar 1 tablespoon kosher salt Place the rice into a mixing bowl and cover with cool water. Swirl the rice in the water, pour off and repeat 2 to 3 times or until the water is clear. Place the rice and 2 cups of water into a medium saucepan and place over high heat. Bring to a boil, uncovered. Once it begins to boil, reduce the heat to the lowest setting and cover. Cook for 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and let stand, covered, for 10 minutes. Combine the rice vinegar, sugar and salt in a small bowl and heat in the microwave on high for 30 to 45 seconds. Transfer the rice into a large wooden or glass mixing bowl and add the vinegar mixture. Fold thoroughly to combine and coat each grain of rice with the mixture. Allow to cool to room temperature before using to make sushi or sashimi. http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_31390,00.html

Ratio of shushi rice to water is 1:1 (i.e. one cup of sushi rice, add one cup of water). Add one teaspoonful of rice wine and 1/2 teaspoonful of salt to each cup of rice. Soak the rice in water for 1 hour before cooking in rice cooker. After rice is cooked, add 1 table spoonful of sugar (granulated sugar) and 2/3 tablespoonful vinegar and mix. Sugar and vinegar ration can be ajusted to your taste.

I'm always using the same recipe. Haven't got the US measuring but for 220 gr of sushi-rice and 5 dl water: Wash the rice in cold water till the water keeps clean and drain the rice well. Bring the rice with the water in a pan to boil, lower the heat and let the rice without cover softly simmer for about 4-5 minutes till all the water has been taken. Put the cover on the pan. Lower the heat and let the rice simmer for another 4-5 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and let the rice (covered) cool for 10 minutes. Stir 2 tablespoons rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 teaspoon salt well with a wooden spoon through the rice till the rice is completely cold

its supposed to be extremely sticky and dry :/

first off, sushi rice is supposed to be sticky, so it will stay inside the sushi roll. As for being dry, I usually add a little more water than what is called for to keep it more moist while cooking, you may also me over cooking it. If it came in a container with instructions follow them. I however never used the rice vinigar, don't care for the taste of it. good luck

Add some vinegar to the water.

Art The Wise

its supposed to be like that so that when you make sushi, it lumps together and the sushi doesn't fall apart
