Do you think beer, wine, coffee, tea, and alcohol are acquired tastes?

Most sugary drinks are absolutely delicious and taste good the instant you try it. Probably because of the sugar. Now, I do not drink alcohol, therefore, the taste of most alcohol is not to my preference. I enjoy coffee occasionally, but usually I'll order it double double. I love tea, green tea, white tea, but I often wonder if some people drink green tea a few times, don't like the taste of hot teas and disregard it altogether like I do with beer or wine or alcohol. I mean you have to admit the first time you had alcohol or a beer that it tasted disgusting. I'm just wondering if some people do to tea what I do to alcohol.

for some people these are all acquired tastes but some people like them first time they try one. We crave sweetness because our subconscious associates sweetness with a good source of calories. Important when we couldn't depend on a meal as primitive people. All of the drinks you mention have some bitterness or astringency that our primitive brains sense as something to avoid. I also think in the US where we consume so much sugar and salt that it is harder for people to enjoy the other taste sensations.

ya it def is. stuff with alcohol tastes flat out bad but after a stint at college I now enjoy it. Actually I think a lot of things are like this. I used to only eat white bread I switched to a whole grain bread which at first I thought tasted bad and now I don't know how I used to eat white bread. I used to eat mcdonalds all the time and didn't know how I lived without it after giving it up for a year I finally had some a while back and couldn't think why I used to love it so much as it still tasted good but my body didn't like it and the craving was no longer there.

It is more what tastes good to the individual, some people like sour foods, some like sweet, some like spicy, each person has different likes and dislikes, an acquired taste is something a person did not like at first but developed the ability to eat or drink it. I do not like hot tea, coffee, or even many cold teas and not cold coffee, but some people enjoy these, will I acquire a taste for these, not unless I really go against my taste buds. If something tastes good I drink it, if not forget it. Actually some wine coolers I loved the first time I had them, as well as some mixed drinks.

yup. I like hot and cold tea unsweetened. My kids like it with sugar. My husband likes cold but not hot sweetened or unsweetened and the list goes on. I enjoy a drink now and then my dad drinks too much beer I don't care for beer. My friend likes red dry wines I prefer a semi sweet white. Everything is an aquired taste

i do think that they are aquired tastes. but the taste of beer is digusting for the first few times that you drink it. but it's so addictive to some people and so they get used to it after drinking it for a while. And it did take me a while to aquire the taste of herbal tea. i'm a big fan of warm tea and cocoa so i don't like it cold at all. not even with time. i know, i've tried it !
