Is green tea healthy or unhealthy?

Is Yorkshire tea healthy? Is it as healthy as Japanese green tea?

  • I'm new to tea.

  • Answer:

Yorkshire tea is a standard black tea blend. It's hard to make sweeping generalizations about whether it's more or less healthy than Japanese green tea as a whole because individual teas are hugely variable from one to the next. I have actually researched this topic quite a bit, and put together the following article: http://ratetea.net/topic/health-benefits-of-tea/8/ What I found is that there's no evidence that broad classes of tea (green vs. black) are healthier than others. The chemical composition of tea varies a lot from one individual tea to the next. Some are higher in caffeine, some are higher in antioxidants. The content of theanine, another chemical in tea, also varies. My impression of Yorkshire tea is that it's a fairly typical black tea...so it's probably going to be middle of the road in terms of its health effects, but I don't have any sources backing that up. I think it's best to just drink a diversity of teas and pay attention to how you feel after drinking them. That way you can drink the teas that make you feel best! Good luck!
