Is it unhealthy to be awake all night?

Does green tea make you stay awake at night?

  • I drank 2 cups of green tea two days ago and I had the best sleep that night but then I drank 2 cups of green tea last night and I stayed awake for the whole night. I just couldn't sleep. My brain kept working. Is it true that green tea unable me to sleep? but then... I slept very well 2 days ago when I drank 2 cups of green tea.... I'm confused. I don't want to stay awake again tonight but I really want to drink a cup of green tea.

  • Answer:

plain and simple. green tea contains caffeine. green tea is NOT an herbal tea. Green tea is made from the plant camelia sinensus which makes it similar to black tea. the caffeine levels in green tea are less than in black tea because it's not as oxidized as black. But to answer your question, if you want to make sure you sleep, stay away from the tea at night since it contains caffeine. Switch to an herbal tea like Sleepytime or Chamomile or Mint tea or Rooibos or Honeybush or other Herbal tea. All herbal teas have NO caffeine so you should be able to sleep. Other factors affecting your sleep include your stress level, your diet, your bed, etc. So I wouldn't blame it all on green tea. good luck.

Green tea doesn't make me stay awake at night but black tea does. I think the caffeine levels in green tea is lower than in black tea. I guess it could be possible that the caffeine from the green tea you had two days ago could still be in your body and the caffeine levels therefore accumulates causing you to have insomnia last night. I suggest you give your body about 2 weeks to dispel the caffeine before starting drinking green tea again. Otherwise, there will be a risk of you have sleepless nights again. Another possible reason could be that your sleepless night (last night) was not caused by green tea but by other factors, including active mind, stress, worries, exercising too late etc...there could be several causes but you won't really know until you try to give your body time to dispel caffeine before starting green tea again.

Green tea is basically a herbal tea. Since it is a herbal tea it does not contain caffeine. No, it won't make you stay up, it usually helps when you can't sleep. Maybe last night you couldn't sleep because you were stressed or something. Green tea is very medicinal and it can also help you to lose weight but most people don't like the taste of it because it is a herbal tea.

It has caffeine in it that's why, if your body isn't used to caffeine, then yes it can make your mind race, therefor keeping you up all night (same thing happened to me). Try drinking one cup every other day to get your body used to it and only drink it in the morning or don't drink any at all.
