How Do I Make Iced Tea From Scratch?
-
I absolutely LOVE iced tea (or ANY kind of tea for that matter) and I've always wanted to try to make my own from scratch. I have 3 different types of tea to choose from (black, green, and white. I'm actually a huge fan of white tea. And I have both high quality tea bags and a variety of loose leaf teas. I just don't know how to make iced tea from scratch. I was going to try and use my perfect tea maker that I got from Teavana (I use it to brew my loose leaf tea. Like maybe I could make it the same way as hot tea but put the tea maker over the pitcher instead. But I don't know if it would work or not.) I tried to look for recipes online but all I found were recipes for Thai tea and I don't like my tea with milk. So any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Answer:
I love iced tea too, and have to make a batch every 4 days or so. I just toss 20 teabags in a large pot with about 5 quarts of water. Bring it to a boil for about 15-20 minutes or until it's as dark as you like it. Let cool, take the teabags out, and refrigerate. (I have a beverage dispenser for the fridge so the tea is literally on tap, they're like $7 at Walmart.)

Easy. Just make hot tea the way you usually brew it, add sugar or honey to taste (more than for hot tea, if you even use any for hot tea) and let cool. Then pour over ice. Be careful not to let the leaves steep too long. Leaving them in there is not an option because your iced tea would be awful and bitter before it would cool down.

Easy! Brew up your favourite tea (black is usual) triple strength. Remove tea bags. Add sweetener of your choice to your taste. Add lemon slices and juice. Refrigerate. When serving, add ice cubes. An old-fashioned way to make iced tea is what my mother used to do in the summer. She'd take a quart bottle in themorning, fill with tap water and then add several tea bags and put it outside by the door in the sun. By the end of the afternoon it was naturally steeped. She called it 'sunshine tea.'
