I bought green tea, but It seems rather black?
-
Well, I just went and bought some tea in the local sushi bar for 150kr, or roughly 25 american dollars (should be mentioned, though, that the Faroe Islands are considered one of the most expensive countries to live in - a bag of chips, 5ish dollars). High quality bar btw, recieved several 5 stars and occationally 6 stars from reviewers. It's called Etika. Now, I just bought some of this green tea because I hoped to replace it with my not quite as healthy black tea. Well, I bought it, went home and opened up the can. "Wut tha f*ck" is my first thought. The tea looks somehow like some of my other tea leaves, which I'm quite confident is black tea. It's like the leaves are dark, hard and somewhat long. There's some jasmin flowers in it aswell. Then at closer look, I noticed that the tea leaves are not entirely black, there are some greenish inbetween them. I researched the matter, and I found that my leaves look somewhat like Oolong tea leaves, but I can't get myself to believe this since the can labels "green tea". Btw, I tried to make myelf some tea, and I became sure that it's not black tea, seeing as the water was very light. the water had a yellow nuance, but very, very light, and didn't really taste of anything. So, is this tea probably oolong tea, or some sort of green tea that one can't find on google image search when searching for "green tea"? Additional info: Brand i called kusmi tea (paris?), and the website is called kusmitea.com and the specific link to the product i http://www.kusmitea.com/en/green-tea/flavoured-green-tea/jasmine-green-tea/c4_12/p55/product_info.html

Answer:
if there were instructions with it, i would use those as a guideline as far as water temp and steeping time. If not, start with water that's about 170 degrees Fahrenheight, and steep for about 4 minutes. if you don't have a water thermometer, boil the water and let it cool for about 10 minutes. japanese green tea is usually greenish, but it could be black colored. When it steeps, it should be a light yellow, so what you probably have is green tea with jasmine pearls. the taste of green tea should not be bitter. it could be a bit grassy, but never bitter. If it's bitter, the water was too hot. green tea and white teas should not be steeped in boiling hot water. It will ruin it every time.
