Does anyone have a good recipe for a seafood chowder?

Anyone know a great fish chowder recipe?

  • My mom wants to make my husband a fish chowder for Valentine's Day, & we want to know what 2 fish go good in a fish chowder. Someone told her once she should use cod, but she can't remember if they also said hake (I wasn't there when she was told, so I don't know). Thanks for any suggestions you can give us.

    Fish Chowder INGREDIENTS: 2 tablespoons butter 2 cups chopped onion 4 fresh mushrooms, sliced 1 stalk celery, chopped 4 cups chicken stock 4 cups diced potatoes 2 pounds cod, diced into 1/2 inch cubes salt to taste ground black pepper to taste 1/8 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning TM, or to taste 1 cup clam juice 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 2 (12 fluid ounce) cans evaporated milk --------------------------------------… DIRECTIONS: In a large stockpot, melt 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Saute onions, mushrooms and celery in butter until tender. Add chicken stock and potatoes; simmer for 10 minutes. Add fish, and simmer another 10 minutes. Season to taste with Old Bay seasoning, salt and pepper. Mix together clam juice and flour until smooth; stir into soup. Remove from heat, and stir in evaporated milk. Serve.

I do not follow a recipe but I make that cowder. Cook potato (diced), carrot (sliced) onion (chopped finely), cook until soft. Add chicken broth, small amount of thyme and clam, cook again. (you will add the cod last). Add milk. Stir flour and cream (or canned milk together to thicken broth/soup. Add, stir and cook until desired thickness. pepper and salt. add chunks of cooked bacon (not much) and shrimp, etc if you want. It is a lot like Skippers in flavor. You can use hashrown potatoes (cubed) instead of whole ones you must chop. You can use canned carrott, easy on the amount or soup will be too sweet. Lots of celery. Have fun.
